30th July Assembly. Class III
Theme: Endemic Species
Thought: The fact is that no species has ever had such wholesale control over everything on Earth, living or dead, as we now have. That lays upon us, whether we like it or not, an awesome responsibility. In our hands now lies not only our own future, but that of all other living creatures with whom we share the Earth.
Speech: Endemic species are those that are found in only one region in the world. For example, Kangaroo is found only in Australia. Such species exist in only one geographical region.
The endemic species are important because they live in a habitat that is restricted to a particular area due to many factors like climate change, urban development, and many more. The area that contains an endemic species is reserved in some ways. For example, the Hawaiian Islands in Australia and the Southern tip of Africa. Nearly 90 percent of natural species are recorded as endemic. Endemic species like the Galápagos tortoise are found in Galápagos Islands.
News: Scientists have for the first time discovered a unique development happening under the Andes, the longest continental mountain range in the world — the crust beneath is dripping like honey and it has been happening for millions of years. The material is being consumed by the mantle, the layer beneath the crust
